Office for subversive architecture

05 October 2007

Philosophy — “These projects are influenced by our ambition to push the boundaries of common practice in architecture by using untraditional and diverse approaches.”

The practice’s Intact (2004) project is a redundant railway signal box that has been subjected to an illegal makeover. The structure, which stands on a site awaiting redevelopment in Shoreditch on the edge of the City of London, has been refurbished to provoke questions about the ideology of the “dream home”.

Kunsthülle Liverpool (2006) is a new venue for contemporary art. The structure appears to merge into the old factory, incorporating an existing staircase, while extending out over the building’s facade. The rooftop is divided into two terraced spaces that are lined with hedges.
